WILLIAMSBURG — After closing its doors to the public since the start of the pandemic, the Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center (WCAC) is reopening starting Wednesday, July 14.

The reopening will kick-off with the center’s Annual Members Show, the first on-site exhibit hosted since the center closed in 2020 due to the pandemic, according to July 8 news release from WCAC.

Th popular art show will feature 2D and 3D artwork by the center’s professional and emerging artists in differing styles and mediums. A hundred artists are participating. Local sculptor Merrilee Cleveland will judge the show, with awards announced at a members-only reception on July 18. The show runs through Aug. 28.

A members and guest reception will be held before the awards ceremony. This event is open to the public.

To prepare for the center reopening, a new sign was installed last week in front of the Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center building, facing Lafayette St. (WYDaily/Gabrielle Rente)

Throughout the pandemic, WCAC continued its outreach to the community via online exhibits, Zoom art classes, and free video lessons on its Facebook page. The online exhibits can still be viewed on the center’s website.

Art classes are now a mixture of Zoom and on-site classes. More information about available classes can be found online by clicking here. Registration is currently underway for both abstract and watercolor painting, and pine needle basketry classes.

The Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center is located at 110 Westover Ave in the blue building. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. All artwork is for sale. The center is closed Sunday-Tuesday.
