PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Art Center will be hosting a “Chalk the Block” chalk art competition, sponsored by Hall Financial Advisors,
The competition began today and runs through Oct. 24. It had been a part of ArtOberfest last year but with this year’s cancellation of the outdoor arts festival this year, the art center wanted to keep a small part of it going.
The art center has sets of chalk pastels to give to the first 20 artists selected for the project, along with loaded Visa cards to give out as prizes. All of this is thanks to organizer Michelle Waters and sponsor, Halls Financial Advisors.
A few more artists are being sought to join the creative community-building effort. The sidewalk “canvas” will be on the 700 or 800 block of Market Street.
Awards will be offered in an adult and a student category. There will be first and second place in each. First place wins $50 Visa cards and second place $25 Visa cards. The“Judges Choice” award will be decided by the Downtown PKB Arts and Culture Committee.
