3) The Union Cabinet Wednesday approved the ART Regulation Bill for the regulation of clinics involved in providing reproduction assistance services, such as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), artificial insemination and surrogacy.
The government, in a press release, called the ART Regulation Bill “historic” for the welfare of women in the country. It also counted the cabinet’s approval of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill last month and the introduction of the Surrogacy Regulation Bill in Parliament as “path-breaking steps to protect women’s reproductive rights”.
The National Board shall lay down code of conduct to be observed by persons working at clinics, to set the minimum standards of physical infrastructure, laboratory and diagnostic equipment and expert manpower to be employed by clinics and banks,” the release said.
4) A multinational company has given a “work from home” guidance till February 28 to its employees after two of them tested positive for Influenza ‘A’ H1N1.
The company has undertaken extensive sanitisation and complete fumigation of its premises. “Considering the situation, we encourage you to work from home beginning February 20 till February 28,” the email said.
State Health officials said the company’s move is surprising as H1N1 is not a new disease and has been in the air for quite some years. “Maybe, the company is taking extra precautions as the symptoms and precautions to be taken for H1N1 are similar to COVID-19,” an official said.
