Oct 05, 2020 — A new exhibit at NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery in Saranac Lake, was inspired by another health crisis from nearly a century ago. Artist Lee Ann Sporn’s colored pencil drawings are featured in “Those We Meet” in the gallery on Woodruff Street this month.
Lee Ann Sporn says she discovered stories of healing and nature in Martha Reben’s tuberculosis era books, “The Healing Woods” and “The Way of the Wilderness”, then by her own healing adventures hiking near Weller Pond, as Reben did back in 1931.
Lee Ann Sporn also teaches Human Health and the Environment at Paul Smiths College. She told Todd Moe that she shares with Martha Reben the feeling that chance encounters with wild animals are simultaneously joyful, sacred and restorative.
Lee Ann Sporn’s show, “Those We Meet” , continues through October 31st at NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery. Hours are Thursday-Saturday 11-5. It’s located at 11 Woodruff Street, Saranac Lake.
