The American Repertory Theater announced Monday it’s canceling all remaining performances of “WILD: A Musical Becoming” because of a breakthrough of COVID-19 among its cast and crew.

A.R.T. has also called off the remaining performances at OBERON, its second stage in Harvard Square, in advance of its permanent closure on Arrow Street at the end of this year.

“WILD” tells the story of a woman on the verge of losing her farm and her town’s awakening to climate change. Idina Menzel portrayed the lead character, and was scheduled to appear until Dec. 23. A number of performers in “WILD” are members of the Boston Children’s Chorus.

The production had been set to run until Jan. 2.

In a message to “WILD” ticket holders, A.R.T. artistic director Diane Paulus wrote that her heart breaks to halt performances of the production. “I am so grateful that you chose to join us for this experience, and our entire ‘WILD’ company wishes we could deliver the joy we know this production brings.”

The decision to shutter the performances spaces was made with guidance from Harvard University and the theater’s health advisors.
